Daily Schedule

Itinerary

Day 1

Cusco – Mollepata – Soraypampa – Humantay Lake

On the first day of the Salkantay Trek 4 days, we will pick you up between 4:30 am and 5:00 am. After an approximately 2-hours drive, we will stop in Mollepata for a delicious breakfast, and then continue our journey to Challacancha (3800 m/12457 ft), which is the starting point of our hike.

We will hike for about 3 hours towards the Soraypampa base camp, located at 3,900 meters (12,800 ft.) above sea level, and enjoy a nutritious lunch. We will then head towards the famous Humantay lagoon (4,220 m/ 13,850 ft) and admire the incredible views along the 1.5 hour walk. The landscapes are exuberant and full of colors according to the season of the year.

You will be able to enjoy the green valleys full of vegetation and incredible sceneries offered by the Humantay and Salkantay Andes mountains, while our local guide will share his knowledge about the history and interesting facts. Besides, you will have enough time to explore this unique place on your own.

We will descend to our base camp in Soraypampa, where we will stay in comfortable Sky Domes, panoramic domes specially designed for the mountain experience. There, we will enjoy a hot cup of coca tea and a freshly prepared dinner made by our cooks.

At 5:00 am, we will enjoy a large breakfast to ensure we have plenty of energy for our hike today. Starting our trek from Soraypampa, we will ascend for 3 hours to the highest point, Abra Salkantay, where we will enjoy breathtaking views of the snow-capped high Andes Mountains, including Salkantay, Humantay, Tucarhuay, and Pumasillo (4,650 meters / 15,250 feet).

Passing through Salkantaypampa and Soyrococha, we will discover a beautiful small lake and then begin our descent towards Wacracmachay for 3 hours (3,800 meters / 12,470 feet). There, we will have lunch and continue our descent for 3 more hours until we reach our campsite in Collpapampa.

We will have tea and a delicious dinner prepared by our cook. Tonight, we will sleep in our comfortable domes at the campsite.

Hiking Distance: 22 km / 13.47 miles

After a rejuvenating night’s sleep and a nourishing breakfast, we start day 3 of our Salkantay trek to Machu Picchu with a delicious breakfast. We begin our 5.5-hour hike through the Peruvian jungle, traversing numerous ascents and descents. This section of the trek takes us through the cloud forest, where we will discover several plantations of coffee, bananas, and avocados, as well as orchids and many natural plants used for medicinal purposes.

We will arrive at our lunch point to rest briefly and, shortly after, take our transportation towards Hidroeléctrica. From there, we will walk for approximately 3 hours to reach Aguas Calientes. Upon arrival, we will enjoy a delicious dinner at a local restaurant in the village at the base of the magnificent Wonder of the World. Tonight, we will stay overnight at a hotel.

Hiking Distance: 16 km / 10 miles
After lunch: 11 km / 7 miles

We will wake up early to visit Machu Picchu, the Lost City of the Incas, rediscovered in 1911 by Hiram Bingham. We’ll take a guided tour to explore its neighborhoods, plazas, terraces, and astronomical observatories. Afterward, you’ll have free time to take photos and explore the site at your own pace.

If you chose to climb either Huayna Picchu or Machu Picchu Mountain, you’ll do so at the designated times (6-8 am or 9-11 am).

In the afternoon, we’ll return to Aguas Calientes for lunch (not included), and then take the train back to Ollantaytambo at 2:55 pm. Along the way, you’ll enjoy the scenery of the Sacred Valley, and upon arrival in Ollantaytambo, our transport will drop you off at San Francisco Square.

This program operates in the Andes, where weather, road conditions, local regulations and visitor controls can occasionally affect timing. The route order may be adjusted by the guide when needed to improve safety, avoid crowds or respond to operational conditions. Any adjustment is made with the goal of protecting the quality of the experience.

Helpful Information

We recommend arriving in Cusco at least one or two days before the tour when your itinerary involves altitude, hiking or long travel days. Drink plenty of water, avoid heavy meals the night before and keep a flexible mindset because mountain weather can change quickly.

For the best experience, travel with only what you need for the day, protect yourself from strong sun and cold wind, and follow your guide’s instructions at viewpoints, archaeological sites and trail sections.

To reserve Salkantay Trek 4 Days 3 Nights, send us your preferred travel date, number of travelers and any special requirements. Our team will confirm availability, explain the next steps and provide clear payment instructions.

Once your reservation is confirmed, you will receive the essential details for pickup, preparation, what to bring and how to contact us before departure. We recommend booking early during high season, holidays or when the tour includes limited-entry sites.

An Unforgettable Salkantay Trek

We traveled from Canada and booked the Salkantay Trek to Machu Picchu. Everything was organized very well from the briefing in Cusco to our final visit to Machu Picchu. Our guide was friendly, patient, and extremely knowledgeable about the mountains and local culture. The trek was challenging, especially around Salkantay Pass, but the team always made sure everyone felt comfortable. The scenery was incredible and arriving at Machu Picchu at the end made the whole experience unforgettable.

We came from the United States for our first trip to Peru and booked our Machu Picchu visit through the agency. Communication was clear before the tour and all the transfers, train arrangements, bus tickets, and guiding were coordinated smoothly. Our guide at Machu Picchu explained the history in a very interesting way and gave us enough time for photos and questions. It was a stress-free experience and exactly what we hoped for.

Beautiful Day in the Sacred Valley

We are from France and really enjoyed our Sacred Valley tour. The landscapes were beautiful and the guide gave us a great introduction to Inca history and local traditions. Pisac and Ollantaytambo were especially impressive. The transport was comfortable, the schedule was well managed, and the staff answered our questions quickly before the trip. It was one of the best days of our stay in Cusco.

Excellent Choquequirao Adventure

We traveled from the UK and chose the Choquequirao trek because we wanted a quieter and more adventurous route. It was definitely demanding, but the organization was excellent. Our guide knew the trail very well, kept a good pace for the group, and shared fascinating information about the archaeological site. The scenery was spectacular and reaching Choquequirao with very few other visitors around was a special experience.

One of the Best Treks We Have Done

We are from Denmark and have done several multi-day hikes, but the Salkantay Trek was one of the most memorable. The route was beautiful and varied, and the team worked hard to keep everything running smoothly. Our guide was excellent and paid attention to how everyone was feeling at altitude. The group atmosphere was very positive and reaching Machu Picchu after several days of hiking felt incredibly rewarding.
