Itinerary

Day 1

Cusco – Hot Springs of Upis

Our Ausangate trekking adventure to Apu Ausangate and Rainbow Mountain begins early in the morning. We will pick you up from your hotel in Cusco at 6:00 am. We will then drive for approximately 4 hours through the Urco Pass, located in the southern part of Cusco. Along the way we will admire incredible views of the surrounding valleys and snowcapped mountains. We will stop for a delicious lunch in the little village of Tinqui and then continue our journey, passing by beautiful farmlands with traditional houses and lots of grazing alpacas and llamas. After driving through the Upis Pass (4435m/ 14,550ft) we finally arrive at the hot springs of Upis. We will set up our camp and relax for about 2 hours in the hot pools, appreciating the tranquility of this incredible place with stunning mountain views. In the evening, we will enjoy a freshly prepared dinner by our local chef and stay overnight at the campsite.

On day 2, we will wake you up with a hot cup of coca tea or coffee. We will enjoy a nutricious breakfast together with the team, being surrounded by beautiful snow capped mountains. We will begin our hike through the high Andes Mountains and, if we are lucky, we can even observe condors flying nearby! Our local guide teach us more about the mountains, flora and fauna during the trek. As we begin to descend, we will see the beautiful Ausangate Lake. The landscape is beautiful, surrounded by forests of queuñas (Polylepis) and located between large mountains that belong to the Vilcanota mountain range. Later, we will arrive at our campsite and have a light afternoon snack. We will have enough time to rest and enjoy the wonderful natural landscape. In the evening, we will have a delicious dinner prepared by our chef and sleep well.

After a large breakfast, we continue our hike along the high Andes Mountains, ascending towards the pass of Abra Puca. We will pass by incredible turquoise lakes and face the magnificent Apu Ausangate. Our local guide will explain more about the history of the mountain and its spiritual meaning. Ausangate is the fourth highest peak in Peru (6,372m/ 20,905ft) and a powerful mountain spirit to the Quechua population of the Southern Andes. It is considered the source of all good things and the owner of the entire Cusco region. We continue our hike towards the Rainbow Mountain valley and enjoy an incredible view of the Chilca valley. We will descend gradually for 2 hours until we reach our lunch spot in Anantapata (4,400m/ 14,435ft). There, we will have enough time to rest and enjoy our delicious meal, and then continue uphill towards the Pitumarca pass (5,050m/ 16,570ft). We will go downhill for 20 minutes towards Lake Yanacocha. We will enjoy the beautiful landscape here and prepare our camp for the night. Later, we will take a short excursion to famous Rainbow Mountain to see the incredible evening colors of the red valley. After spending some time there, we will return to our camp (approx. 45 minutes) and have dinner.

We will begin our last day of the Ausangate Trekking very early, waking up at 4:30 am for breakfast. We will return to the Rainbow Mountain to watch the sunrise there. Our local guide will share with us his knowledge about this incredible place. We will then start with the final part of our journey, descending towards the Red Valley. You will be surprised by the breathtaking beauty and immensity of this valley, especially because only few people visit this valley. After visiting a lookout, we will hike downhill for approximately one hour, passing by traditional houses and grazing llamas and alpacas. We will have our final lunch together and then take our private transport back to Cusco. After a 4-hour drive, you will be dropped off at your hotel in Cusco.

This program operates in the Andes, where weather, road conditions, local regulations and visitor controls can occasionally affect timing. The route order may be adjusted by the guide when needed to improve safety, avoid crowds or respond to operational conditions. Any adjustment is made with the goal of protecting the quality of the experience.

We recommend arriving in Cusco at least one or two days before the tour when your itinerary involves altitude, hiking or long travel days. Drink plenty of water, avoid heavy meals the night before and keep a flexible mindset because mountain weather can change quickly.

For the best experience, travel with only what you need for the day, protect yourself from strong sun and cold wind, and follow your guide’s instructions at viewpoints, archaeological sites and trail sections.

An Unforgettable Salkantay Trek

We traveled from Canada and booked the Salkantay Trek to Machu Picchu. Everything was organized very well from the briefing in Cusco to our final visit to Machu Picchu. Our guide was friendly, patient, and extremely knowledgeable about the mountains and local culture. The trek was challenging, especially around Salkantay Pass, but the team always made sure everyone felt comfortable. The scenery was incredible and arriving at Machu Picchu at the end made the whole experience unforgettable.

Communication was clear before the tour and all the transfers, train arrangements, bus tickets, and guiding were coordinated smoothly. Our guide at Machu Picchu explained the history in a very interesting way and gave us enough time for photos and questions. It was a stress-free experience and exactly what we hoped for.

Beautiful Day in the Sacred Valley

We are from France and really enjoyed our Sacred Valley tour. The landscapes were beautiful and the guide gave us a great introduction to Inca history and local traditions. Pisac and Ollantaytambo were especially impressive. The transport was comfortable, the schedule was well managed, and the staff answered our questions quickly before the trip. It was one of the best days of our stay in Cusco.

Excellent Choquequirao Adventure

We traveled from the UK and chose the Choquequirao trek because we wanted a quieter and more adventurous route. It was definitely demanding, but the organization was excellent. Our guide knew the trail very well, kept a good pace for the group, and shared fascinating information about the archaeological site. The scenery was spectacular and reaching Choquequirao with very few other visitors around was a special experience.

One of the Best Treks We Have Done

We are from Denmark and have done several multi-day hikes, but the Salkantay Trek was one of the most memorable. The route was beautiful and varied, and the team worked hard to keep everything running smoothly. Our guide was excellent and paid attention to how everyone was feeling at altitude. The group atmosphere was very positive and reaching Machu Picchu after several days of hiking felt incredibly rewarding.
