Daily Schedule

Itinerary

Day 1

Cusco – Capulilloc – Chiquisca – Playa Rosalina

Early in the morning we will pick you up from your hotel in Cusco and drive for approximately 3 hours to the village of Curahuasi, where we have a large breakfast. Our transportation will take us to the Capulilloc pass and on the way you will observe beautiful views of Apu Salkantay and Apu Veronica. The Choquequirao 5 days trek begins with a 4-hour descent, which brings us closer to the roaring Apurimic river. In Chiquisca, we will have time to rest and enjoy a delicious lunch prepared by our chef. We will then continue our hike until we reach our campsite at Playa Rosalina, where we will spend the night, have a delicious dinner and hot tea.

Early in the morning, our team will wake you up with a hot cup of coca tea. We start our hike with a tough 3-hour climb, where we will be able to cach out first glimpses of the Choquequirao ruins. Passing by the rural villages of Santa Rosa and Marampata, we will arrive at our campsite close to the ruins. We enjoy the beautiful of the Inca citadel of Choquequirao and rest at our camp.

After a nutritious breakfast, we will finally visit the archeological site of Choquequirao, which literally means “Cradle of Gold” and used to be the control gate between the Amazon and the city of Cusco. The sacred Inca site is filled with ruins, its buildings and terraces tuck in below a flattened hilltop, leveled several hundred years ago, and circumferenced with stones to create a platform. Our guide will explain more about the history and importante of the Inca citadel, and you will have enough time to explore this incredible place by yourself. Later, we will go back to our campsite.

After an early breakfast, we will leave our beautiful Marampata campsite and start the descent towards the Apurimac River and the Rosalina Beach (1520 m/4986 ft). From there we will continue hiking upwards until we reach our campsite of Chiquisca (1950 m / 6397 ft), where we will spend the night.

On our final day, we will follow the trail up the walls of the canyon and toward the pass of Capuliyoc, enjoying spectacular mountain views. Arriving in Capuliyoc, we will have a delicious lunch and take our transportation back to Cusco.

Please let us know in case you would like to add an extension to Machu Picchu to the Private Choquequirao 5 Days Trek!

This program operates in the Andes, where weather, road conditions, local regulations and visitor controls can occasionally affect timing. The route order may be adjusted by the guide when needed to improve safety, avoid crowds or respond to operational conditions. Any adjustment is made with the goal of protecting the quality of the experience.

Helpful Information

We recommend arriving in Cusco at least one or two days before the tour when your itinerary involves altitude, hiking or long travel days. Drink plenty of water, avoid heavy meals the night before and keep a flexible mindset because mountain weather can change quickly.

For the best experience, travel with only what you need for the day, protect yourself from strong sun and cold wind, and follow your guide’s instructions at viewpoints, archaeological sites and trail sections.

To reserve Private Choquequirao Trek 5 Days, send us your preferred travel date, number of travelers and any special requirements. Our team will confirm availability, explain the next steps and provide clear payment instructions.

Once your reservation is confirmed, you will receive the essential details for pickup, preparation, what to bring and how to contact us before departure. We recommend booking early during high season, holidays or when the tour includes limited-entry sites.

The group price is designed for travelers joining a shared departure with fixed services and organized logistics. It normally includes the core guided experience described in the itinerary, while optional upgrades, personal expenses and services not listed as included are quoted separately.

Choosing Salkantay House Travel means traveling with a local team that understands the routes, the culture and the practical details that make a tour feel smooth from beginning to end. We focus on clear communication, responsible operations and carefully organized experiences rather than rushed, generic departures.

Our guides bring the landscape to life with context, stories and practical support, while our operations team helps coordinate timing, transportation and preparation. The result is a more comfortable, informative and memorable way to explore Choquequirao and the Apurimac Canyon.

Every departure is planned with attention to timing, traveler comfort and local conditions. The guide may adjust stops, visit order or short breaks to make the experience smoother on the day of travel. This flexibility is especially valuable in the Andes, where weather, traffic, altitude and site regulations can influence the rhythm of the route.

If you are celebrating a special occasion, traveling with children, managing dietary needs or combining this tour with another destination, let us know in advance so we can help you prepare properly.

An Unforgettable Salkantay Trek

We traveled from Canada and booked the Salkantay Trek to Machu Picchu. Everything was organized very well from the briefing in Cusco to our final visit to Machu Picchu. Our guide was friendly, patient, and extremely knowledgeable about the mountains and local culture. The trek was challenging, especially around Salkantay Pass, but the team always made sure everyone felt comfortable. The scenery was incredible and arriving at Machu Picchu at the end made the whole experience unforgettable.

Perfect First Visit to Machu Picchu

We came from the United States for our first trip to Peru and booked our Machu Picchu visit through the agency. Communication was clear before the tour and all the transfers, train arrangements, bus tickets, and guiding were coordinated smoothly. Our guide at Machu Picchu explained the history in a very interesting way and gave us enough time for photos and questions. It was a stress-free experience and exactly what we hoped for.

Beautiful Day in the Sacred Valley

We are from France and really enjoyed our Sacred Valley tour. The landscapes were beautiful and the guide gave us a great introduction to Inca history and local traditions. Pisac and Ollantaytambo were especially impressive. The transport was comfortable, the schedule was well managed, and the staff answered our questions quickly before the trip. It was one of the best days of our stay in Cusco.

Excellent Choquequirao Adventure

We traveled from the UK and chose the Choquequirao trek because we wanted a quieter and more adventurous route. It was definitely demanding, but the organization was excellent. Our guide knew the trail very well, kept a good pace for the group, and shared fascinating information about the archaeological site. The scenery was spectacular and reaching Choquequirao with very few other visitors around was a special experience.

We came from Australia and completed the five-day Salkantay Trek. The entire experience was better than expected. The mountain views were incredible, the meals were very good, and our guide was supportive throughout the trek. He explained what to expect each day and helped everyone manage the altitude. One of the Best Treks We Have Done

We are from Denmark and have done several multi-day hikes, but the Salkantay Trek was one of the most memorable. The route was beautiful and varied, and the team worked hard to keep everything running smoothly. Our guide was excellent and paid attention to how everyone was feeling at altitude. The group atmosphere was very positive and reaching Machu Picchu after several days of hiking felt incredibly rewarding.
